While rare, a dropped laptop can result in extreme damage like this. When the drive arrived at our lab it was clear that several pieces were loose inside. Debris alone is enough to damage the sensitive platter surfaces. A hard drive with a platter completed shattered is generally not recoverable. Unfortunately this project did not have a chance from the very start.

ha, Gizmodo posted a story about a hard drive’s platters shattering that looked alot like this one http://bit.ly/y7JjN
some mystery cause the guy didn’t know how the heck the platters got shattered.
