After a summer vacation and back to school shopping spree you might think you are prepared for another school year, but don’t overlook your computer. In preparing for assignments and research projects you should consider cleaning up your home computer. The last thing you want is to encounter computer problems when the school year kicks into high gear. Grab a can of compressed air and let’s get started.

Dust buildup can be a major problem to your computer components. Over a year and hundreds of hours of air circulation dust can quickly accumulate inside your computer case. Preventing buildup will help keep things cool inside your PC reducing the chances of a hardware failure. Trust me, we’ve seen our fair share of dust bunnies.

Take your computer out to your garage (or outside if the weather permits). You want the dust outside your home and not just outside of your computer. Remove the both side panels of your case if possible. Use your compressed air to remove any dust buildup in the bottom of your case. Next take a closer look at your internal fans and blow that dust buildup away. Once you are satisfied put the side panels back on and reconnect all of your cables.

This simple routine removes a common source of computer hardware problems. Just remember to take a peek inside your computer case every so often and clear out anything that may have accumulated. Don’t let the dust build up into a problem.
