This year is the 35th anniversary of NAND flash memory being invented! Since 1987 the technology has transformed digital devices and grown to support so many of our data access & storage needs.

NAND memory, what most of us generally know as flash memory used in SD cards, USB keys and solid-state drive technologies, uses NAND logic gates to allow non-volatile (retains information if power is removed) computer memory storage. Here’s some flash facts from inventor KIOXIA (which at the time in the 1980s was called Toshiba Memory Corporation):

Infographic by KIOXIA about the 35th anniversary of NAND flash memory includes "Look How Far We've Come" and "From Then To Now". Comparison chart of "In the 90s" vs Today. Comparing Price Per Gigabyte ($10000/GB to $0.20 per GB), Die Density (4Mb to 1.33 Tb) and examples of Music Storage and Photo Storage capabilities which have grown massively. Evolution of Applications includes "Then" in the 1990s like Digital Answering Machines, mp3 players and digital cameras, and "Now" with smartphones, tablets, smart home devices, SSDs, Cloud computing, Wearables, and Security/surveilance technology.

KIOXIA has some other facts and content about the milestone on their website here.
