By Thursday – just two days before Christmas – discs started arriving from CBL. “There was a lot of great stuff on that first batch of DVDs,” Sharwood says. “In fact, they did too good a job: I’d reformatted the drive a couple of months earlier and CBL found files I deleted on purpose!”

A few critical files were still missing, so Sharwood asked if it might be possible to retrieve them too.

“There were some pretty big smiles around the house when the next batch of discs arrived because everything I asked for had been restored,” he says. “Getting those files back – especially my email store – was a huge relief,” while the delivery of the second set of discs in the few business days between Christmas and New Year was a revelation.

“I expected this crash would wipe me out until mid-January,” he says. “I was stunned that CBL turned it around so fast in the silly season. It meant my clients and editors never noticed any difference in my work.”

Sharwood now pays more attention to his backup regime, but knows that a broken drive needn’t be as terrifying as he first thought.

CBL found my data, did it quickly and did it at a time of year that most people simply don’t expect business services to be available. It was a great experience and one I would recommend to anyone that has a disk problem, or just anyone that wants to see really great customer service at work.”
