Occasionally CBL gets interesting projects. If you live in the Houston, TX area you may have heard the news of the unique ant problem some residents have been experiencing. It is believed that a species of ants usually found in the Caribbean and South America arrived in a cargo shipment into the port of Houston and has now spread to a number of Houston areas. Along with a unique erratic behavior, it seems “crazy rasberry ants” are attracted to electronic equipment, including computers.

A few years ago a project came in to our lab under similar circumstances. The computer case was crawling with ants. To prevent contamination of our own computers, the pc was taken outside to the parking lot and cleared using compressed air. We’re not sure how they got in there or whether they were the source of the problems, but we had a recovery situation that involved ants. It seemed appropriate given the recent news.

Luckily the ants did not find their way into the hard drive and the data appeared to be intact. In the end we were able to successfully recover the customer’s data. The computer however, was another story. All in a day’s work here at CBL Data Recovery.
