June 13

Summer is a busy time of the year. Graduation events. Weddings. Anniversary parties. Birthday celebrations. Family barbeques. Vacations overseas. Weekend get-a-ways.

Just as we continue to adopt technology into our professional lives, we continue to embrace technology in our personal lives. At many social events, one might even speculate that the number of digital cameras could rival the number of cell phones.

Let’s imagine that you’ve been invited to attend your friend’s wedding on Saturday, July 7, 2007 (or 07/07/07) which has been touted as the most popular wedding date of all time.

So you attend the aforementioned event and take countless photographs with your digital camera. It is now Sunday. You sit down to review this moment in time captured digitally. Like many other individuals, you no longer print your photographs. You now prefer to save them to your computer or upload them to a portal for family and friends to view. But when the unthinkable happens and you cannot access either the wedding photographs on your camera or the images downloaded to your personal or laptop computer, what next? You may have already deleted the images from the flash card or memory stick!

No professional or amateur digital camera user is immune from data loss. To reduce the probability of losing your data, here are some best practices to follow:

• Familiarize yourself with how your camera operates. Read the owner’s manual.

• Do not change your viewing mode until your camera has processed and saved the image.

• Do not eject your camera’s memory card while downloading photographs. Wait until your computer has successfully saved the images before you eject the card.

• Once the memory card is no longer processing the images, properly eject the memory card from the card reader and safely disconnect the reader from your computer.

• Do not store all images on one memory card. Pack extra memory cards in your accessory bag before you head out the door to attend the big event or vacation.

• Download your photographs to your computer as soon as possible.

If you are attending an event on 07/07/07, take time if you have not already to get to know your digital camera. If not, you might find yourself in need of the professional data recovery services of CBL to rescue your precious memories, as digital photographs can be lost in a flash.

The emotions captured and conveyed in your photographs cannot be replicated. However, your digital memories can be recovered.
