North Americans hate to pay taxes, but more and more of us love to file our income tax returns electronically.

OK, so perhaps love may be a little too strong a word, but an Internal Revenue Service press release indicated that during 2008 about 58 percent of tax returns filed were done so electronically. That’s approximately 90 million of the 155 million tax returns filed.

To the north, Canada Revenue Agency reported that more Canadians filed their income tax returns using NETFILE “or (took) it to a tax preparer who (sent) it electronically through EFILE.”

According to a May 30, 2008 Canada Revenue Agency news release, the number of people filing electronically increased 7.2%. Use of NETFILE by individuals increased almost 5 percent while tax preparers use of EFILE increased 9.1 percent in 2008 according to CRA.

As the deadlines to prepare and file income tax returns approaches, CBL Data Recovery reminds North Americans who will file their returns electronically to backup their computers.

If you happen to use a desktop tax preparation solution (like TurboTax, TaxCut, or QuickTax) and incur a data loss disaster as the tax deadline approaches—April 15 in the US or April 30 in Canada— CBL Data Recovery is extending a 50 percent discount off its standard recovery fees for the recovery and return of tax-related and financial data. That’s in addition to performing a free evaluation of your computer’s hard drive. You also have the option to receive your successfully recovered data via secure FTP transfer at no extra cost.

In North America, call CBL 24×7 at 1-800-551-3917 and speak with a representative or visit CBL online.
