It’s not something we often think about. We make calls on our cell phones, play games on our Sony and Nintendo devices, and send emails from our netbooks and laptops. We take important data with us everywhere we go, but do we ever plan for those mobile devices to fail?

Take a look at your cell phone and consider how much data is stored on that device. Contacts, phone numbers, addresses and that’s just the phone data. Photos, videos, music and possibly even more data. If your phone breaks, you might lose that data forever.

Despite the many functions of our mobile devices we hardly think about the irreplaceable data stored on them. As technology improves, the way in which we use mobile devices is changing our medium of data storage. Growing phone storage capacity and the growth in mobile data plans is a sign of things to come. Thus protecting that data from hardware failure is something we need to consider.

Once these devices fail simply being able to access the device is the first step to recovering data. However the data recovery process is far less successful than a traditional hard drive. Users should remember that prevention is the best practice. It can be as simple as backing up your contacts to a SIM card or syncing your phone to your computer. Make sure you’re taking the necessary steps to back up your mobile data.
