Spring! Time to Review/Renew Your Business Continuity Plan

According to a recent survey of small and medium business owners and IT decision makers, businesses are leaving themselves increasingly vulnerable to the loss of data and the potential for a privacy breach.

The revelations come from a recent survey commissioned by Primus Business Services, which shows nearly two-thirds (60 per cent) of participating small and medium businesses invest less than 10 per cent of their budgets in data security despite the fact that a comparable percentage agree that they are concerned with the security and integrity of their business data.

“We see this all the time when customers call us for help and a quote to retrieve their critical business data,” says CBL’s Tim Margeson. “One of the first questions we often ask when we receive that panic call is – where’s your back-up? Unfortunately, many business users don’t have one and have not considered a business continuity plan.”

Although respondents of the Primus study who have a plan were concerned about the security of their data, 74 per cent claim to not currently have secure off-site storage for their critical business data, and 72 per cent of respondents do not currently monitor or manage their data on a 24×7 basis.

“After 18 years in the data recovery business, our experience echoes this study,” adds Margeson. “We find that many SMBs continue to be at risk with limited investment being made to both retain and secure critical business data. So since it’s spring – spring into action and start to build your continuity or back up plan now.”
