While Hurricane Earl may just be a headline for some of you, many of you are unfortunately in the path of the latest natural disaster. Often the strength of tropical storms are underestimated by those who choose to weather the storm. However be forewarned. Hurricane Earl is expected to reach category 4 packing a punch of winds up to 130 miles an hour (209 km/h).

CBL Data Recovery has extensive experience when dealing with natural disaster data recoveries. In hurricanes, earthquakes, and fire damage CBL has been there to help those affected save important data. However, being prepared can help you avoid facing a data recovery scenario.

Disaster Preparedness

When preparing an emergency kit don’t forget about the data on your home computer. While home PCs should not be packed, portable laptops and netbooks can be easily taken if necessary. A small or portable external hard drive can be quite handy. Be sure to keep important documents (insurance, financial, etc.) with you and in a water proof zip lock bag.

Business Continuity

Businesses should prioritize the critical information assets of the company and focus on those to maintain business continuity. Assess what your current disaster recovery plan covers and where impacts will be felt.

Taking steps to avoid downtime and protect computers should of course not mean that safety takes a backseat. Most important is to be safe. Don’t take unnecessary risks to save personal items. Hurricane damage to PCs or flooded hard drives and gadgets can always be worked on in the lab afterward.
