Do you know someone whose hobby is tinkering with computers?

When you have ‘computer problems’ such as a head crash, do you call your friendly computer enthusiast first?

If you cannot access the data on your PC or laptop, attempts by your D-IY- friend—made with the best intentions—to ‘fix’ your hard drive frequently compound the initial problem and can create catastrophic problems (aka data loss) especially if your buddy opens your computer’s hard drive.

If you value the data on your hard drive just as much as you value the friendship with your techie pal, resist the temptation to tamper with or hand over the drive to anyone but a professional data recovery specialist, like CBL Data Recovery.

CBL lab managers across the country and around the globe will tell you:

  • Do not open the affected hard drive.
  • Do not power up a damaged drive.
  • Do not shake a drive.
  • Do not run CHKDSK.
  • Do not use software tools on a clicking drive.
  • Do not install or run data recovery software on the affected hard disk drive.
  • Do not format an affected disk.
  • Do not remove or replace the drive’s original PCB.
  • Do not initialize RAID Arrays.
  • Do not force RAID Arrays back online.
  • Do not put the drive in the freezer.

If you value your data and your friendship, you’ll send your hard drive to CBL and keep a lid on IT.
